Following the recent debut of Sirreti Residences on the Italian market, the new collection of private residences dedicated to ultra-luxury hospitality, unveils two highly unique residences; Residenza Sirreti Roma, in the heart of the city, and Residenza Sirreti Lago di Garda, on the shores of the lake.

Both are exceptional properties where guests can expect tailor-made experiences, during their stay, far from the conventional hotel models.

SIRRETI ROME

Located between the Pantheon and Piazza Navona, in the heart of Baroque Rome, Sirreti Residence in Rome occupies the rooms on the noble floor of Palazzo Nari a Sant’Eustachio.

The building has its roots in the city’s aristocratic history and takes its name from the powerful Naro family, who commissioned its construction in the first half of the 17th century. It was Bernardino Naro who entrusted the design to architect Bartolomeo Breccioli. This building was created following the demolition of the previous medieval houses in the block between the current Piazza de’ Caprettari, Via Santa Chiara, Via de’ Nari, and Via Monterone.

The decorative elements of the architraved doorway, molding and windows, embellished with the characteristic crescents of the Naro coat of arms, still testify the prestige of the family, whose members included military commanders, cardinals and prominent figures of the papal court.

The structure of the palace follows the typical layout of a Roman urban palace: on one side, more intimate rooms overlooking the internal courtyard and on the other, lounges facing the city.

After centuries as the residence of the Nari family, the palace underwent a transformation in the 19th century, when part of the building was sold and demolished for the construction of a neoclassical palace, while the remaining ownership passed to the Serventi family in 1876.

The residence, acquired and restored as part of the European Heritage project, today embodies authentic Roman elegance, albeit far removed from the exuberance of monumental Baroque, distinguishing itself for the balance with which it fits into the complex medieval urban fabric of the historic center.

The interiors retain large, high rooms, characterized by decorated coffered ceilings in several rooms; the main hall houses a true artistic gem: a large fresco by Antonio Gherardi, an Arezzo painter active in 17th-century Rome, depicting the Triumph of Reason over Deceit, surrounded by biblical episodes from the Book of Esther.

With its entry into the Sirreti Residences collection, the building’s main floor is now undergoing a redevelopment project aimed at restoring the splendor and centrality of this historic residence in the heart of Rome. This project offers a private and immersive stay experience, where art, history, and contemporary comfort coexist in perfect harmony, preserving the bond with the capital’s architectural culture.

SIRRETI SAN SEBASTIANO LAKE GARDA

Overlooking the crystal-clear waters of Lake Garda and surrounded by scenic beauty, San Sebastiano Sirreti is a private retreat of rare elegance and tranquility.

The property boasts 250 meters of private shoreline with breathtaking lake views and is a complex comprising three independent buildings: the south building, the central building, and the dock, flanked by the charming Limonaia Lounge.

The residence offers spacious indoor and outdoor spaces, designed to ensure the utmost comfort, privacy, and refinement. These include: seven bedrooms, a large heated outdoor pool, a private natural lakeside pool, a private yacht dock, a sauna, massage areas, scenic gardens, a barbecue and lounge area, and areas perfect for tastings, private events, and private retreats.

A place designed to offer the utmost comfort and discretion, with personalized services, from dedicated staff to a butler, a private chef, and security systems.

With its scenic beauty and tailored attention to hospitality, Sirreti Lake Garda defines the concept of “refined privacy,” distinguishing itself as one of the most private and exclusive destinations in the fascinating lake district of northern Italy.

If you’re planning your next luxury family holiday, why not consider a low-tech escape to make the most of your precious time together? People of all ages are increasingly glued to their screens and often don’t make time to reconnect with nature or each other. Off-grid escapes are on the rise as they offer families the chance to prioritise shared adventures, outdoor activities, and quality time spent together. With the upcoming cinema release of The Magic Faraway Tree, there’s no better time to set your little ones’ imagination free and take to the great outdoors for some family fun.

Enid Blyton’s enchanting world will be brought to life in cinemas on March 27th 2026 and the much-loved characters of a series published nearly 90 years ago will return to the spotlight, providing the perfect inspiration to get the whole family excited about low-tech, outdoor activities. In a world where mobile phones, tablets, and consoles have become embedded in our daily lives, storytelling and slower-paced experiences are in demand as parents redirect their children’s attention away from screens and onto storybooks and real-life adventure, especially on holidays.

Children are curious so they will thrive from the adventure attention an off-grid family holiday affords. Research has shown the seemingly endless benefits of time spent in nature and these types of holidays encourage kids and grown-ups alike to use their imagination and bond with each other without technology getting in the way. The story of The Magic Faraway Tree is built on curiosity and courage and inspires children to be the main characters in their own fantasy stories by ditching their screens and heading outside to create and play.

The increasing popularity of off-grid, low-tech family holidays reflects this shift in mentality. Founded in 2003, Oliver’s Travels, an award-winning specialist in holiday rentals, has noted a growing demand for family villas and rural escapes including holiday homes without Wi-Fi and where nature takes centre stage. The company offers specialised service and local knowledge from the concierge team in addition to a wide range of one-of-a-kind properties in the UK, Europe, and all over the world like villas, châteaux, castles, stately homes, beach huts, hobbit houses, ski chalets, and cottages. There are optional additional services including food delivery, fridge stocking, spa treatments, airport transfers, chef and maid services, local excursions and more. Oliver’s Travels offers everything from a Greek Island escape for up to 20 guests to a grand French castle retreat for 15 to an intimate, 6-person Italian mountain getaway in the Dolomites.

What’s more, these types of holidays can be completely personalised with an itinerary full of fun for all the family from woodland exploration to water-based activities. The natural surroundings provide plenty of space to unwind in peace, dine under the stars, or try your hand at something new. Parents will set an example by showing that screen-free family time is more enriching and rewarding than days spent in front of the TV. Children will enjoy their new-found freedom and benefit from a stress-free break from day-to-day life.

How Picasso’s birthplace became the Mediterranean meeting place for creative chefs, innovative hospitality experts, a magnet for global technology investment, as well as a luxury travel destination.

Every February, Málaga becomes the meeting place for Spain’s hospitality and gastronomy industries. H&T, the Salón de Innovación en Hostelería, now in its 28th edition, is an innovation show that brings together the full breadth of the sector from Michelin-starred chefs, winemakers, artisan producers of organic local produce, speciality coffee roasters, craft brewers, hospitality equipment suppliers, and the technology companies that are shaping how the industry operates. This year, over three days in February more than 600 companies, 70 speakers and 19,000 professionals came together at FYCMA, Málaga’s trade fair and congress centre.

The programme ranged from AI and digitalisation to sustainability, customer experience and talent, together with the headline draw of Michelin star chefs and industry thought-leaders.

Eduard Xatruch, whose Barcelona restaurant Disfrutar holds three Michelin stars, talked about his years at elBulli, the journey with his partners to open Compartir in Cadaqués, and the philosophy behind Disfrutar’s success. What stayed with me was his insistence that warm, welcoming, natural hospitality is what makes a dining experience memorable. That eating out is a complex ritual involving far more than what is on the plate.

Toño Pérez, the three-star chef behind Atrio in Cáceres, spoke about the influence of his mother and inspiration of the natural setting of his award-winning Extremaduran restaurant. I have stayed at Atrio and eaten there, and his presentation captured exactly why it is one of the most special dining experiences in Spain. Benito Gómez of two-star Bardal in Ronda, Hugo Muñoz of Ugo Chan in Madrid, and Víctor Gutiérrez, whose restaurant in Salamanca is Spain’s only Michelin-starred Peruvian kitchen, all shared their insights.

These chefs chose to come to Málaga, to this show, to inspire the next generation. And you could see it working. After each session, young hospitality professionals crowded to the front for selfies and conversation. For them, these chefs are rock stars.

Andalusian Wine, Reimagined

In the tasting salon, I joined a session titled ‘De Jerez al Cielo: Redescubriendo el Fino de Pago’, led by the team behind Bodegas San Francisco Javier. Sisseck, the Danish winemaker whose Pingus is one of Spain’s most revered wines, has turned his attention to Jerez with a project that is helping restore the historic prestige of single-vineyard Fino sherry, and it is one of many Andalusian innovation stories highlighted at the show.

A City Transformed

I have lived in Málaga province for over 20 years. I have witnessed firsthand how this city has evolved, Two decades ago, Málaga was a place most travellers passed through on the way to the Costa del Sol resorts.

What has happened since is one of the most remarkable urban reinventions in southern Europe. Málaga has become a genuine city destination, a place people fly to for unforgettable city breaks and international conferences. The city is increasingly more sophisticated, focused on a more sustainable model of tourism, with more boutique properties and fine dining. Malaga is also blessed with Mediterranean light, a 3,000-year history, a renowned coastline, an airport with extraordinary international reach, and the warmth of malagueño culture.

The malagueños are open, friendly, and quick to start a conversation, whether it is the taxi driver taking you from the hotel to the trade fair or a waiter in an old town tapas bar. This Mediterranean warmth and openness is part of why Málaga works as a hub for innovation. There is a freedom here, a lack of pretence and hierarchy, which acts as a natural incubator.

Cultural Capital

Málaga’s cultural reinvention is anchored by major institutions that very few cities outside national capitals can rival. The Museo Picasso Málaga, opened in 2003 in the Palacio de Buenavista, honours the city’s most famous son with over 200 works. The Carmen Thyssen Museum, in a 16th-century palace, holds an exceptional collection of 19th-century Spanish painting. The Centre Pompidou Málaga, the first branch of the Parisian institution outside France, is found on the stylish marina complex of Muelle Uno.

The Museo de Málaga, Andalucía’s largest museum, reopened in 2016 in the restored Palacio de la Aduana, the neoclassical former customs house, with over 15,000 archaeological artefacts tracing the city from its Phoenician founding around 770 BC. Add the CAC Málaga contemporary art centre, the Picasso birthplace on Plaza de la Merced, and a growing gallery scene in the Soho arts district, and the total reaches over 40 cultural spaces.

The Waterfront

Nowhere captures Málaga’s transformation better than its revitalised port. Muelle Uno, the palm-lined quayside development, has turned a working dock into one of the most attractive waterfront promenades in the Mediterranean, with the Pompidou’s emblematic glass cube art installation at one end and the Paseo de la Farola at the other. A new cruise terminal has also expanded the city’s international profile.

At the heart of Muelle Uno is the restaurant of José Carlos García, the city’s renowned Michelin-starred chef and a true malagueño. I have eaten there, and what distinguishes the experience is how relaxed and natural it feels. There is no pretence. García’s two tasting menus champion local produce, around 70 per cent from the surrounding land and sea, reinterpreting Andalusian classics like ajoblanco and gazpachuelo with technique and what he calls the classicism of his family heritage with a touch of rock and roll. This, I think, is the art of Spanish hospitality, modern yet built on generations of history and ancient recipes, delivered with authenticity and without a trace of stuffiness.

Beyond the Michelin table, the old town is filled with places to eat. The Mercado de Atarazanas is the place to start, with standing tapas and cold beers. Walk east along the coast to El Palo and you find espetos, fresh sardines on skewers over beachside fires, a culinary icon of Malaga.

Read The Luxury Editor’s Málaga Eat, Do, Stay guide here.

The Home of Innovation

Málaga’s ambition goes well beyond culture. The city has established itself as one of southern Europe’s most significant technology hubs. Málaga TechPark, a 30-year-old campus, is home to over 630 companies and 25,000 professionals. Google also chose the city for GSEC Málaga, its flagship European cybersecurity centre, housed in a landmark building near Muelle Uno. Malaga also beat seven cities in five countries to host Vodaphone’s European R&D centre. Oracle, Huawei, Globant, TDK, Capgemini and IMEC have all followed, supported by the proactive Malaga Chamber of Commerce.

This spirit of innovation is echoed in the hospitality sector. The Costa del Sol has been a testing ground for the hospitality industry for seven or eight decades, from the days when European royals discovered the coast, through the creation of landmark resorts, the mass tourism era and now out the other side with a refined, experienced model built on sense of place, sustainability, and gastronomy. H&T is the natural expression of that evolution.

The City to Watch

Málaga is compact, walkable, and vibrant with Andalusian energy. The old town is a maze of tapas bars, small squares, and sunlit terraces, backed by the Alcazaba, the Roman Theatre and the Castillo de Gibralfaro. Urban beaches run along the eastern coast.

It is also exceptionally well connected. The Pablo Ruiz Picasso Airport is Spain’s fourth busiest, with 55 airlines flying to over 160 destinations across more than 40 countries, including direct services to the Middle East via Qatar Airways and seasonally to New York. The city is on Spain’s AVE high-speed rail network.

But what sets Málaga apart, and what may in time see it eclipse Barcelona as southern Europe’s most dynamic Mediterranean city, is the combination of all these things in a place that remains genuinely warm, and human in scale. A city with 3,000 years of history, world-class art, a technology sector that attracts Google and Vodafone, a hospitality industry with seven decades of expertise, Michelin-star dining on the waterfront, urban beaches, over 300 days of sunshine, and a population whose instinct is to welcome you.

A dramatic and fun-filled evening was enjoyed by many (including me!) last week at the invitation-only ‘Traitors’ inspired themed night hosted at the stunning Prestonfield House in Edinburgh. The 17th century historic building makes a perfect setting for such an evening.

The frosty night air and softly lit winding driveway to the House created a mystical pre-empt to the surreptitious evening that loomed ahead.

A kilted friendly doorman welcomed me and showed me inside the grand entrance. The warmth of the house, atmospheric lighting, ornate décor, along with the chatter from other guests and diners immediately created an inviting ambience. The night was already off to a great start.

Hooded ‘Traitor’ style waiters and waitresses, each armed with a silver tray of fizz-filled champagne flutes, awaited our arrival upstairs in the Tapestry Room. This room was created by the craftsmen who worked on the Palace of Holyroodhouse back in 1687 and epitomises the grandeur and drama of Baroque style. A roaring log fire is befriended by a collection of antiques, ancestral portraits, ornate furniture and (as the room name suggests) Mortlake tapestries, which were originally designed to produce lighter, albeit more expensive, decoration for rooms than the previously favoured Elizabethan wood panelling. This exceptionality is a theme that runs throughout the entirety of Prestonfield House.

As guests mingled, champagne flowed and the delicious canapes savoured, the relaxed mood was abruptly interrupted by a dramatic entrance of three more hooded characters. Dahdahdah…..The ‘MacTraitors’ had arrived.

A performance ensued and the story of the MacTraitor Clan unfolded, with a twist of course, the Chief had been murdered! But which of the three remaining MacTraitor’s did it? Why and how?? It was up to us to find out. Meanwhile ,some of the guests had been given the famous Claudia shoulder tap and been assigned the role of a traitor for the evening.

As suspicions and ‘whodunnit’ theories bubbled away, we were invited to take our seats in Rhubarb Restaurant, where dinner was served. Rhubarb Restaurant is a fine dining destination restaurant known not only for its outstanding culinary offering but also for its enchanting and romantic setting. Walking into the dining room, I felt like I was in the magical dining room from Beauty and the Beast. Every tiny little detail sparked with finesse and grace – it was as if the care and consideration put into creating this special place had breathed life into it.

I found my seat with a place card and personalised menu. The bespoke candlewax stamp on the menu and etchings on the saucers are other finishing touches that demonstrate the level of detail that is given to the Prestonfield House experience.

Dinner comprised a three-course meal, with each course selected by owner, James Thomson O.B.E DL, who informed me they are three of his personal favourites. I can see why. They were all exquisite; beautifully presented, with a combination of distinct and perfectly nurtured flavours that left a welcomed impression on the palate, the premium quality of the ingredients really shone through and portions were bountiful too.

Throughout dinner those guests who were shoulder tapped and recruited as ‘Traitors’ were also asked to say a line or two from Traitors Series 1 without it being detected by the ‘Faithfuls’. We also had the opportunity to question each of the MacTraitors as they moved around the table with each course. It was fun and surprisingly thought-provoking too, I really embraced the role of investigator!

As dinner drew to a close, with suspicions peaking, guests were asked to commit to their final verdicts on the ‘who, why and how’ murder case and point out those they thought were the Traitors amongst the group. The suspense was intense!!

I’m not giving away the answer, however, I’m delighted to say my partner and I solved the crime! It wasn’t easy, but we did it and did so having lots of fun.

More drinks flowed, but sadly in true Cinderella style, I had to leave the fairytale-esque Prestonfield House before the party ended.

The evening was designed by The PC Agency and Maximillion Events to showcase Prestonfield House in all its glory and that it did. It was such a fun evening in a truly special place. If you’re visiting Edinburgh, I highly recommend staying at Prestonfield House, not as a MacTraitor, but for a relaxing and romantic escape.

Prestonfield House

Set within 20 acres of gardens and located next to the stunning Arthur’s Seat, Prestonfield House is one of Edinburgh’s most exclusive 5-star hotels. Comprising 18 luxurious bedrooms and five romantic suites all of which are individually decorated with unique antique furniture and feature beds. Each of the hotel’s public rooms also boast individual character with an opulent and baroque-inspired design, expertly curated by owner, James Thomson OBE DL, one of Scotland’s most respected independent restaurateurs and hoteliers. Prestonfield House is also home to the exceptional Rhubarb Restaurant, a romantic and elegant fine-dining restaurant.

Urvshi Marwah, founder and owner of The Suite Sojourn offers her professional insights into what clients, and the wider UHNW market, desire when it comes to travel preferences this year. Designed for the World’s Most Discerning Travelers. Read on to discover more.

In 2026, ultra-high-net-worth travel is defined by precision, privacy, and purpose. UHNW clients are no longer interested in generic luxury. Today’s elite travelers seek journeys that feel intentional, deliver privileged access, cultural relevance, and exceptional personalization. Here we explore four trends that represent how elite travel is evolving for those who value rarity over recognition and experience over extravagance.

1. Event-Based Travel: Access, Prestige and Cultural Capital

Event-based travel has become one of the most powerful drivers of UHNW journeys in 2026. These trips are built around global moments of cultural, sporting, or artistic significance, where presence itself signals privilege, discernment and insider status.

For UHNW clients, the event is not the trip; it is the anchor. The journey is curated entirely around access, comfort, and seamless logistics.

What it Involves

Highly personalized itineraries designed around invitation only events, world class premier sporting occasions, private performances, and global cultural moments, paired with bespoke travel experiences before and after the event.

Popular destinations among UHNW travelers

  • London during Wimbledon paired with Debenture Seats, private club access and heritage estate stays
  • Monaco, Singapore, Abu Dhabi for Formula 1(®) with Paddock Club access or yacht-based viewing during the Monaco Race Weekend either on a private yacht, or on an exclusive position in Monaco’s legendary Port Hercule aboard Explora Journeys.
  • Scotland & the U.S. for iconic Golf tournaments, such as The Open, and The Masters
  • Global cultural capitals for private concerts, opera premieres, and art world events
  • Winter Olympic host regions, such as the upcoming Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics with discreet alpine chalets and private security

Ultra–High-End Experiences

  • Private hospitality suites and invitation-only lounges
  • Unrestricted access to courtside, pit lanes, or exclusive clubhouses
  • Private jet or helicopter transfers synchronized to event schedules
  • Behind-the-scenes access made possible through trusted personal networks

Why It Resonates with UHNW Travelers

Event-based travel delivers social capital and emotional resonance. These journeys place clients at the center of global moments, creating stories, connections, and memories that cannot be replicated.

2. Luxury Train Travel: The Return of the Grand Journey

Luxury rail travel is experiencing a renaissance among UHNW travelers who value discretion, heritage, and time as the ultimate luxury. In 2026, trains represent a return to a refined form of slow travel, where privacy, scenery, and service are paramount.

What It Involves

Multi-day or extended rail journeys featuring private suites, dedicated onboard staff, and curated cultural excursions, often combined with exclusive hotel stays and private transfers.

Popular destinations among UHNW travelers

  • European Grand Tours through France, Italy, Switzerland, and Austria aboard Orient Express rail journeys offer iconic, luxurious travel experiences, evolving from its historic Paris-to-Istanbul route (1883) into modern luxury services like the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express (VSOE), featuring Art Deco elegance, fine dining, and routes from London/Paris to Venice, Prague, and beyond, alongside new ventures like the Italian-themed La Dolce Vita Orient Express.
  • Asia’s heritage railways connecting historic cities and natural wonders. The Eastern & Oriental Express (E&O), a Belmond luxury train, offers opulent journeys through Southeast Asia (Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand) with vintage charm, featuring elegant cabins with en-suites, fine dining with local flavors, and unique excursions into exotic landscapes like rice paddies and rainforests, providing a nostalgic, five-star travel experience akin to its European sister, the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express.

Ultra–High-End Experiences

  • Exclusive use of an entire carriage or full train buyouts for families or private groups
  • Private chefs, sommeliers, and onboard wellness practitioners
  • Off-train experiences including private museum access and estate visits
  • White-glove luggage handling and door-to-door logistics
  • Bespoke interior design and personalized in-suite amenities

Why It Resonates with UHNW Travelers

Luxury train travel offers privacy without isolation, allowing clients to move elegantly through regions while remaining insulated from crowds. It appeals to those who value craftsmanship, nostalgia, and the journey itself as a form of art.

3. Luxury at Sea: Absolute Privacy with Boundless Exploration

Luxury at sea has become one of the fastest-growing categories for UHNW travelers in 2026. Whether via private yachts, ultra-luxury vessels, or expedition ships, the ocean offers unparalleled freedom, privacy, and access to the unreachable.

What It Involves

Ocean journeys designed around exclusivity and exploration, ranging from fully crewed private yachts to luxury hotels at sea with the upcoming launch of Four Seasons Yachts

Why It Resonates with UHNW Travelers

Luxury at sea offers absolute control: privacy, security, and autonomy. It enables UHNW clients to explore the world’s most remote places without compromise, crowds, or fixed schedules.

4. Coolcations: Climate-Led Wellness Escapes

Coolcations have emerged as a defining luxury trend for UHNW travelers who prioritize comfort, wellness, and harmony with nature. These journeys focus on traveling to cooler climates with pristine landscapes, and deeply restorative environments.

What It Involves

Bespoke travel to temperate or cold-climate destinations that offer natural beauty, mental clarity, tranquility, and physical rejuvenation, often during traditional peak travel months.

Popular destinations among UHNW travelers

  • Scandinavia & Lapland
  • The Swiss and French Alps
  • Scotland, Ireland & Northern Europe
  • Canadian Rockies & Alaska
  • Patagonia & Southern Chile
  • Northern Japan & the Japanese Alps

Ultra–High-End Experiences

  • Exclusive use of Private wilderness lodges
  • Helicopter access hiking, glacier exploration, and heli-skiing
  • Nordic thermal rituals and personalized longevity programs
  • Midnight sun or Northern Lights viewing from private estates

The UHNW Travel Mindset in 2026

For ultra-high-net-worth travelers, luxury in 2026 is no longer defined by excess. Luxury is defined by intention and precision. The most valued journeys prioritize:

  • Access over opulence
  • Privacy over visibility
  • Personal relevance over popularity

Whether attending the world’s most exclusive events, traversing continents by rail, exploring the oceans, or retreating to cool, untouched landscapes, UHNW travelers are seeking experiences that are unrepeatable, deeply personal, and flawlessly executed.

Are you thinking about planning a luxury ski or snowboarding holiday? Imagining yourself cruising down freshly groomed slopes or hitting waist-deep powder off-piste? Us too!

As with every type of holiday, there are so many different factors to consider when planning a luxury ski trip. Snow reliability is one of the biggest considerations, so a high resort is always a good option. Is the resort beginner-friendly or does it favour more advanced abilities? Perhaps a lively apres-ski scene is your thing, and of course, not forgetting the choice of high-end accommodation and resort facilities and activities.

Read on to discover a selection of some of our favourite resorts (Courchevel 1850, Vail and Gstaad) to offer inspiration for your next snow-bound holiday.

Courchevel 1850

Welcome to one of the best and largest ski resorts in the world, Les Trois Vallées. The French Alps are known internationally for its excellent skiing and extensive trail network. At Courchevel, you’ll find stunning scenery as well as direct access to some of the best snow conditions in Les Trois Vallees.

Things to Do

While most people come to Courchevel for the skiing, there’s a range of fantastic off-piste activities too. Drink the night away in classic ski resort bars, take a helicopter tour to experience the areas natural beauty and much more. Whether you’re a ski bum or ski bunny, there’s something for everyone.

Helicopter Tours. Taking to the air is one of the best ways to witness the area’s stunning landscape. Scenic flights will take you over the Alps summits to peaks like Mont Blanc, Le Grande Casse and les Ecrins. A helicopter tour is an unforgettable experience.

Skiing. Most people come to Courchevel to ski. With direct access to Les Trois Vallees, the world’s largest ski resort, there are over 300 miles of immaculate pistes to explore. You’ll find slopes suitable for all skill levels from beginners to advanced.

Aquafun Area. Courchevel is also home to Europe’s largest mountain aquafun centre. It includes a 25m swimming pool, indoor and outdoor lagoons, five-lane water slide, hydro baths, sauna, steam rooms and a seawater cave. With so much to offer, Courchevel’s aquafun area is the ideal way to relax after a day on the mountain.

Where to Stay

Throughout the Courchevel region, you’ll find a range of fantastic five-star hotels. Most feature swimming pools, spas and fitness centres and of course, easy access to the ski mountains. Here are some of our favourites:

Le Lana. Nestled into the mountains, Le Lana offers guests a luxurious stay with world-class service and amenities. This five-star hotel has a heated indoor swimming pool, state-of-the-art fitness centre, and an indulgent spa. There’s also an on-site restaurant and piano bar serving signature cocktails with panoramic views. Guests can get ski equipment at the onsite ski shop or relax after a day of skiing in the games room or cinema room.

Le K2 Palace. K2 Palace is another excellent choice for skiers staying in Courchevel. Rooms have chalet-style decor, flat-screen TVs,a seating area and extra conveniences like a DVD player. On-site you’ll also find an indoor swimming pool and hot tub, a high-end spa, a modern fitness centre and three restaurants. One of the restaurants has two Michelin stars and overlooks the nearby ski slopes.

Le Chabichou. Rooms at Le Chabichou are a mixture of traditional ski resort and contemporary styles. This five-star hotel also has an onsite Michelin 2-star restaurant serving French and regional cuisine in a wood-panelled dining room and a modern spa offering beauty and massage treatments. Guests also have access to a swimming pool, steam room, sauna, hot tub, fitness room and sensory rain trail.

Best Time to Visit

If you want to hit the slopes, the best time to visit is between December and April. It’s a good idea to check the weather forecast before booking a trip, as snowfall can vary year-by-year and month-by-month. Christmas and New Year are particularly popular times to visit, which means that resorts can be very busy and we recommend planning ahead. January is another excellent time to visit as the mountain is generally quieter and there are no lift queues. Spring skiing, between March and April, is also fantastic as the weather is good and April often sees the most snowfall.

Vail, Colorado

Vail, Colorado is one of the world’s most luxurious and opulent ski resorts. With towering peaks, waist-deep powder and sunny blue skies 300 days a year, there are many fantastic reasons to visit. Vail Mountain has one of the most extensive ski networks than any other mountain in the USA and boasts over 1500 acres of downhill slopes on the North face and 3500 acres on the back-bowl. Come summer, there’s plenty of outdoor activities too like mountain biking, hiking and horseback riding. Vail is one beautiful outdoor playground.

Things to Do

Whether you’re carving up the slopes or drinking at the mountain bars, life revolves around the ski mountain in the winter. After all, Vail is one of the world’s most exclusive ski resorts.

Skiing. Vail Ski Mountain has over 5,000 acres, making it the third-largest ski resort in the United States. Here, you’ll find several bowls and intermediate terrain in Blue Sky Basin. There are trails suitable for skiers of all levels.

Betty Ford Alpine Gardens. Vail is also home to the world’s highest botanical gardens. These gardens have over 2,000 varieties of plants, including over 500 different types of wildflowers and alpine plants as well as a stunning 120-foot waterfall. Vail’s ski season runs from December to March. Christmas and New Year, like most ski mountains, is particularly busy so it’s best to book ahead. Most years Vail gets over 190 inches of snow with January and February getting the most. March and April are great times to visit for spring skiing, where sunny skies make skiing more enjoyable and give you the opportunity to get a tan.

Gstaad, Switzerland

Gstaad combines glitz and glamour with a traditional village atmosphere, making it one of Europe’s best ski destinations. Every year the rich and famous, like George Clooney, Madonna and even Paris Hilton, flock here to ski and shop at designer boutiques. You can also partake in a range of outdoor activities during the summer and winter months. With such a prestigious reputation, Gstaad is the ideal destination for a luxury ski and snowboard holiday.

Things to Do

Known for its stunning natural beauty, most people visit Gstaad for an opulent ski holiday. Whether you’re dining at Michelin star restaurants or taking private ski lessons at the local mountain, there’s plenty of ways to have a fabulous holiday.

Wispile. Wispile, Gstaad’s local mountain, is ideal for beginners and families travelling with children. In addition to some great ski slopes, you can also take a scenic hike along its broad ridge and then ride a toboggan into Gsteig — a thrilling experience for adults and kids alike.

The Rinderberg. As one of the largest ski and hiking areas in the region, The Rinderberg has over 65 miles of ski runs and links to Schonried to Saanenmöser, Zweisimmen and St. Stephan. Making it an excellent choice for skiers of all ability levels.

Dog Sledging. Dog sledging is a great way to explore the area’s natural beauty without strapping on the skis. You can hire a sledge to whisk you through the woods to the picturesque village of Lauenen. It’s a breathtaking experience and offers a great alternative to skiing.

Where to Stay

Luxury, five-star hotels in Gstaad have old-school charm. Many offer wooden chalets with traditional features and open fireplaces.

The Alpina Gstaad. With an elegant, Swiss Alpine style, rooms incorporate natural materials like marble, sandstone and aged wood. All rooms have balconies with stunning mountain views and some have open fireplaces. Onsite you’ll find three restaurants including Megu which serves Japanese cuisine, a classy wine bar and Havana-inspired cigar lounge. There’s also a spa offering holistic treatments, an indoor and heated outdoor pool, sauna, fitness room and relaxation area. The Alpina also has its own cinema.

Hotel Olden. A charming, traditional boutique hotel in Gstaad’s traffic-free pedestrian zone, Hotel Olden is another great choice for luxury ski or snowboard accommodation. Ski lifts are less than 1000 yards away and there is an excellent onsite restaurant serving Mediterranean cuisine.

Ultima Gstaad. Ultima Gstaad has three large wooden chalets in traditional Alpine-style. Gstaad promenade is less than a ten-minute walk away. Every room has a terrace or balcony overlooking Gstaad town and the Bernese Alps and a bronze fireplace. Some suites also have fully-equipped kitchens and private entrances. Onsite, you’ll find three bars including a Shisha bar and smoker’s lounge, a restaurant serving Alpine specialities, and a modern spa. There’s also a sauna, indoor and outdoor hot tubs, a 20 yards swimming pool, and a gym.

Best Time to Visit

Gstaad gets snow from December to April. January and February are considered the winter high season and have the greatest snowfall. Days are relatively short and quite chilly with snow practically guaranteed. The area gets particularly busy during school holidays, like around Christmas and New Year, so if you plan to visit this time of year, book ahead.

When winter months feel long and unrelenting, the Caribbean islands, with their laid-back atmosphere, colourful architecture, picture-perfect beaches and warm (literal and metaphorical) welcome, are an obvious choice. Especially, as the area experiences its best weather — bright dry and comfortably warm days, with low humidity and little hurricane risk post-November. But, if you’re offput by all-inclusive resorts, mass tourism, or Caribbean cliches, know that these islands offer much more depth and diversity than the holiday brochures may communicate. It will likely mean an additional short-haul hop on a local airline, once you’ve landed in one of the larger islands’ airports. But the views afforded by these aerial trips are a mini adventure in themselves. Here are some of the best islands to explore, if your aim is to discover rich layers of character, culture and calm this winter season.

Dominica

Those wishing to immerse in ‘real’ Caribbean life should consider a stay on Dominica. With relatively few tourists, the island remains unhurried and oriented around the needs of locals, rather than visitors. Communities are tight-knit, traditions are strong, and the indigenous Kalinago culture is ever-present. Waterfalls, volcanoes, hot and cold springs (including the natural jacuzzi known as Champagne Beach) are waiting to be discovered, with horse riding treks, canyoning, river boat tours and tubing, popular with those travellers who make the journey to Dominica. Five-star accommodation here includes secluded treetop pool villas, refined ecolodges and a boutique spa resort with colonial-style architecture.

Puerto Rico

For Caribbean character, the pulsating capital of San Juan is hard to beat; alive with salsa, reggaetón, murals and street food. But just a few minutes away, in the quieter 16th-century Yoruban settlement of Loíza, you can experience the region’s African heritage with bomba music and local art — take a dance class, trek the mangrove forest, or visit the María de la Cruz Cave Historic Park. Or take a trip to Yauco for some java (Yauco is known as “El Pueblo del Café/Coffee Town” for its role in bean production) and to see some colourful Yaucromatic murals in the island’s large outdoor gallery. Along with caffeinated beverages, the pina colada is an integral part of the culture on Puerto Rico — you may like to stay a few nights at its birthplace, the Caribe Hilton.

Bonaire

If calm, low-key eco-tourism is your aim, venture just off the Venezuelan coast to the Dutch Caribbean. Bonaire brings a strong commitment to sustainability and a refreshingly uncommercial pace. The island is arguably best known for its exceptional marine life, with protected reefs that begin just metres from the shoreline, making it one of the Caribbean’s most respected diving and snorkelling destinations. Above water, Bonaire excels in conservation and community. Its flamingos (the island airport’s namesake) are a frequent, if surprising sight. And each winter sees the arrival of a month-long carnival with costumed parades and Tumba music. Accommodation styling tends toward small and simple, rather than sprawling, and days are quiet, relaxed and heavily immersed in nature.

Tortola

Tortola is the largest of the British Virgin Islands, a place of understated luxury that’s especially suited to sailing enthusiasts of all levels. Its mountainous interior gives way to sweeping bays and calm shores — a landscape alive with drama, and surprisingly unspoilt. An absence of large-scale resort developments and plenty of luxe villas make it a refuge for those seeking privacy. Tortola is also especially convenient for those visiting by yacht, with easily accessible anchorages. Those keen to learn more about BVI culture can explore the 1780 Lower Estate Sugar Works Museum, Fort Burt, Mount Healthy Windmill, Callwood’s Rum Distillery, J.R. O’Neal Botanic Gardens, Old Government House Museum and the VI Folk Museum.

Grenada

Known as the “Spice Island”, Grenada is home to two nutmeg museums and a bean-to-bar chocolate-making industry. It’s a destination often overlooked by mainstream tourists. But that may change in the near future, with premium brands such as Six Senses taking up residence on the isle, and direct flights from London. Now is therefore an optimum time to book a stay, with access to such high-end resorts becoming available, yet without the abundance of holidaymakers found in many of the more populated islands. Do take a dive to the Molinere Underwater Sculpture Park, see the sulphur springs and the Rainbow Eucalyptus tree (whose bark peels to reveal vibrant colours). And to disappear somewhere even more secluded, take a boat to the neighbouring Southern Grenadine islands of Carriacou or Petite Martinique.

If you’re still undecided where to celebrate New Year and want to do so in extravagant style, head to Ras Al Khaimah. The northernmost emirate of the United Arab Emirates is preparing to welcome the New Year with its most ambitious celebration yet, unveiling a New Year’s Eve spectacle designed to push the boundaries of scale, creativity and innovation. The emirate is aiming to make history once again with an attempt to set a new GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title for the largest single firework ever launched.

The 2025 celebration is shaped around a creative concept inspired by strength, renewal and Ras Al Khaimah’s forward-looking spirit. A carefully choreographed fusion of fireworks, illuminated drones and laser technology will transform the night sky into a vast open-air canvas, delivering a show built on precision, colour and dramatic visual storytelling.

At the heart of the programme is a 15-minute midnight display stretching across six kilometres from Marjan Island to Al Hamra Bay, positioning it among the most expansive fireworks shows staged anywhere in the world. More than 2,300 drones, including pyro and laser drones, will form intricate aerial patterns before the show reaches its climax with the launch of the record-breaking single firework as the clock strikes midnight.

Celebrations begin earlier in the evening with a family-friendly fireworks display above Corniche Al Qawasim at 8.00 PM, offering residents and visitors an opportunity to enjoy the atmosphere ahead of the main event. The midnight show then takes centre stage, combining large-scale pyrotechnics with immersive drone formations over the water.

Al Hamra will also host the free entry Ras Al Khaimah New Year’s Eve Festival, running from 2.00 PM and designed as a full-day celebration. Visitors can expect live entertainment, food trucks and carnival style activities, creating a relaxed and welcoming setting to enjoy the countdown to the New Year

The festival stage will feature an international line up including DJ BobMix with his blend of Arabic and global hits, a live performance by Indo Canadian Bollywood singer Shweta Subram, and an international DJ set from DJ Bia.

With 13 GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ titles achieved over the past seven years, Ras Al Khaimah has firmly established itself as one of the world’s most talked about destinations for New Year’s Eve, combining technical ambition with large-scale public celebration and a strong sense of place.
